Description The Ship of Thera is known from the remarkable frescoes discovered in the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini. These wall paintings, dating to around 1600 BC, depict fleets of ships sailing among the islands of the Aegean, revealing the importance of seafaring and trade in the prehistoric Cycladic and Minoan world. The vessels are characterized by their elongated shape and elegant construction, features that made them suitable for travel and communication between the islands of the Aegean Sea. These depictions are among the earliest representations of organized maritime activity in the Mediterranean. This silver miniature faithfully captures the form of the prehistoric vessel, combining Greek history with the art of silversmithing. A timeless decorative object inspired by the rich maritime tradition of the Aegean.
